An ongoing research project into context-aware interactive audio — systems that listen to their environment and respond. Sound that shifts with movement, presence, data, and time rather than playing back a fixed score.
The work explores audio as a live design material: not decoration applied after the fact, but a primary medium for conveying state, guiding attention, and creating presence without demanding it.
Research threads
Themes under active investigation include proximity and spatial audio response; biometric and environmental data as compositional input; the relationship between generative sound and calm technology principles; and the design of audio experiences that work at the periphery of attention — informing without interrupting.
This connects directly to work on Phycologica (breath-triggered bioluminescent sound), Deepwood (live environmental data sonification), and A River’s Song (community-generated landscape audio).
Status
Active research — no fixed endpoint. Outputs emerge as collaborations, installations, and published notes. If you are working in adjacent territory and want to compare notes, get in touch.
Sound that knows where it is — and behaves accordingly.
